One night I come across a man looking around beneath a streetlight. "I dropped my keys" he says. "Under this streetlight?" I ask. "No, farther down the street. But this is where there's light to search by."

A lot of the seemingly big questions in physics are not under active research because we have no lead on an attack on the problem. I would love faster-than-light space travel, cheap teleportation, or even something relatively easy, like the ability to control gravity as easily as we control electromagnetism -- but where to even begin?

We're going to keep looking under the streetlights for a while I think.
